Los Alamitos, CA (KCAL) — A man who walked into an Orange County home and undressed in front of a teenage boy was later found naked hiding on top of an elementary school, sheriff’s deputies say.

Keith Eric Newbury, 37, was arrested late Wednesday night after a 2½-hour standoff at  Francis Hopkinson Elementary School near Los Alamitos, according to Lt. Ken Binning of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. He had apparently fled to the school after an encounter in the adjacent community of Rossmoor.

The suspect had reportedly entered a home around 9 p.m. and walked into the bedroom of a 14-year-old boy.

The boy, who had been in bed, described the encounter to TV station KTLA:  “He shook me on my shoulder. … He looked at me and said, ‘Just making certain you weren’t deaf.’ …

“He started undressing. I looked at him and told him to give me a moment.”

The teen fled the room to tell his parents and grabbed a meat cleaver, authorities said. (“I would never use the meat cleaver on the guy, but he doesn’t know that,” the boy told KTLA.) The man followed the boy and wrapped a USB cable around the mother’s neck and shoulders before he was chased out of the home by the boy’s father,  Binning said.

The man jumped into a white Dodge van and drove to Hopkinson Elementary, where he parked on the grass and climbed onto the roof, according to officials.

Sheriff’s deputies and police officers from Los Alamitos and Seal Beach surrounded the school and made multiple announcements for the suspect to surrender. Around 11:30 p.m., the man – who was now completely naked – climbed down from the roof on a ladder and surrendered.

Investigators later said the man repeatedly vandalized the roof of the building, but no details were provided.

The suspect was transported to a hospitalized and later booked on suspicion of burglary, indecent exposure, assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance, the sheriff’s department said.
